Traveltravel tips

Most people would love the chance to escape the cold after five or more months of snow and feel the sand between their toes. It is very common to see snowbirds flying south during February, March and even into April, but before you climb aboard that airplane, we want to make sure you and your belongings are as safe as possible! There are a few extra steps you can take so that you never return home to a disaster.

SOCIAL MEDIA ETIQUETTE

First and foremost, DO NOT post any information about your vacation on social media. As excited as you might be, alerting anyone you don’t trust 100% to the fact that you will be away is a dangerous action. This leaves your house, car and all valuable belongings very vulnerable.

While you are on vacation, remember to continue this and try not to post any photos until you have arrived back home. Once you are safe and sound in your home, feel free to share the fun with everyone online!

PROGRAM YOUR ELECTRONICS

There are so many apps and timers on the market these days, it’s easy to make your home look “lived in” while you are away. By putting timers on your lights, speakers and television, you can periodically turn them on and off so that anyone who might be lurking will be scared away.

ASK FOR HELP

Ask a family member or friend to pick up your mail and take out your garbage as to not leave any signs that your property is vacant. If you are overly concerned about leaving your house unattended, you might even find a friend or family member that is willing to house sit. This way someone is always there.

LOCK AND KEY

Although this might sound obvious, many people skip this step. Before you leave, make sure all of your valuables are out of sight and in a safe or lock box. This way, if anything were to happen to your property, it is harder for your valuables to be taken. When you leave your house, lock¬†everything. This includes your garage, shed, all doors and vehicles. It’s a simple step and one that could save your property.

CHECK IT OFF

Just like most people have a packing list, it is a good idea to make a “checklist” for these steps so that you will not miss a thing before getting on your flight or taking off on the road. Once every safety step is checked off, you are ready to go!

With just a few extra steps and a bit of extra time, you can breathe easy under the sun. We would love to help!
