When winter rolls around, it always leaves at least a bit of damage in its wake. Thankfully Coast Insurance offers fantastic coverage to help you in a lot of those cases. For those of us though who prefer preventative maintenance, we’ve compiled some of our favourite tips and tricks for keeping your home safe all through winter.
Around your door and windows are tiny little seams that can often let cold air into your home. Take a moment to re-caulk those areas, and install some weather stripping. These things don’t’ take a lot of time, and can have a huge impact on the comfort of your home.
While here on the East Coast of Canada, winter 2020 has been fairly easy on us, we still do run some risks, one of those being ice dams. An ice dam happens when ice and snow melt during the day and then refreezes at night when it gets colder, becoming trapped in your gutters and clogging them. That can cause water to back up into your roof, sometimes causing a leak and expensive damage to your home.
Your roof is what keeps your family safe from the elements. Every winter it gets piled on with snow and ice. While we don’t recommend climbing up onto your roof, we do recommend keeping an eye upward to make sure the snow doesn’t get too thick. When it does, call a professional to come to clean it off for you to avoid any potential troubles.
Keeping your family safe is your number one concern. Keeping you safe is ours. When’s the last time you had your home insurance policy reviewed by an insurance professional? We’d love to help!
